This site contains two short books by a local teacher that I have converted for the Web. A Concise History of Weoley Castle A Concise History of Northfield This site was off-line for more than 18 months pending a big "update" which I have never got around to... Bearing this in mind I have decided to update the site at a most basic level and post it on-line anyway. Now people can at least view something whilst they are waiting for me to make the site look even better! I have plenty of idea's for the new site including a Mailing List, Chat Room, Message Board and more articles on the history of both Weoley Castle and Northfield. Watch this space or alternatively drop me an e-mail and I'll let you know when things get updated further! If you want to find out more about me then please feel free to check out my homepage at TubbWeb or my company, Netlink Trading, which deals with IT and Computer problems for home users and businesses in the Weoley area and further afield. The Website of the Weoley Castle Community Association can be found at www.weoleycastle.net - I recommend that you check this out for more modern day news on the Weoley area than can be found here! :-) 10/01 - There was a nice small article in the Focus South newspaper about the history of Weoley Castle. I hope to have this converted into a nice web-page soon, but in the meantime here is a scanned copy of the article. 12/03/03 - Thanks to Maureen Surman from the Woodgate & The Valley History Group for pointing out their website which contains history on neighboring Woodgate Valley. It is well worth checking out! 01/04/03 - Maureen, along with a number of other people, have suggested that I add a forum area where people can leave messages for one another as well as memories from Weoley Castle. I agree that this is an excellent idea and when time permits I will investigate adding such a feature to the site. 24/04/03 - My old school teacher Michael Fisher from my old school, Princethorpe Junior School, contacted me to say that the school now has a nice website to view. What's more they have linked into the Weoley Website as a reference point for pupils hoping to learn about the area Princethorpe is in! 16/05/03 - Martyn Northfield has been in touch to see if any visitors to the Website know anything more about the surname Northfield. Martyn already has some information about the Northfield name that you may not already know, but if you can help shed any further light - please contact Martyn directly. 17/06/03 - Bruce Harvey writes to say "I like the web-sites, but my memory of Weoley Castle history is that the archaeological excavation revealed 6th and 8th century stuff. Fay (Bruce's wife) had some stuff produced by the museum." Does anyone else have any more information on this? 26/06/03 - Michael Haughney writes "Hi my name is Michael Haughney and I am 25 years old. After reading your page on the web I just wondered if you knew my Dad, David Harrison, who i have been searching for for some time now (25 years) he is 47 or 48 now and he had a sister called Sue who would be about 44 and his Dad used to work at the Cadbury's factory. I do not know if they live in the area (Weoley Castle) anymore but I am really desperate to find them as I have family of my own that I would love them to see. If you can think of anything or suggest anything I would really appreciate it as I do not know where to go from here. Thanks Michael Haughney" If you can help Michael with any information on his family, do not hesitate to get in touch with him. 11/07/03 - Christine Ward, an ex-Weoley resident now working at the Templeman Library at the University of Kent asks a question I'm sure many people have asked before! Christine says: "I lived in Weoley Castle for 20 years before I moved to Kent, and my mother lives at Shenley Green. We are both interested to know why Weoley Castle Square is known as that, when in fact the 'Square' is 'Round' if you see what I mean." Can anyone answer this long-standing question? 09/12/03 - Had the "Weoley Open Networker" newsletter posted through my door. Find an archived copy (be warned, this is a large download at 14MB) in Adobe Acrobat format (get the Reader here) on-line. 13/02/07 - The Birmingham Industrial History Society has been in touch. Some readers of this site may find the Society of interest to them. 22/02/07 - Kerry writes to ask "I have recently found that my family comes from Northfield. The family name is Inston. They owned quite a few acres in farm land throughout the generations. It was quite a large family and I wondered if anyone had any information on them. Some of the places mentioned in the census are Jiggins Lane, Moor Farm, Wilderness (?) Farm, Jiggins Lane Farm? Hope you can help. Thanks, Kerry". If anyone has any information that may help Kerry, please e-mail her.
