A Concise History of Weoley Castle

A Concise History of Northfield

Weoley Castle

Weoley Castle is situated in the South of Birmingham, bordered closely by Bournville, Selly Oak and Northfield, and to a lesser extent by Bartley Green, Woodgate Valley and California. It's to the Bournville border that our home is closest, many of the houses nearby being part of the Bournville Village Trust - a society with it's history firmly seated with the Cadbury family. The Cadbury Company are of course famous for their Chocolate worldwide, the main local factory being in the beautiful nearby area of Bournville.

However, it is with Weoley Castle that my interests lie and whilst doing some research at my local library (with the intentions of producing my own brief history of Weoley Castle for this site) that I came across a superb booklet written by an old teacher of mine at Princethorpe School in Weoley Castle, Derek Walker. With his permission I have reproduced that book in a format more suitable for the World Wide Web which you can view on-line here.

Derek has also produced a similar book covering nearby Northfield. You can view a Web-friendly version of that book on-line here.

I hope to shortly have "off-line" viewable versions of these books available for downloading. The books can be distributed via disk or e-mail in this format. Watch this space!

I regularly get e-mail's from ex-residents of Weoley Castle now living all over the World! So far I have heard from Brummies in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and America! If you have any stories or information that you would like to see included then please e-mail me now.

In addition, please take a look at these links from other folk in the Birmingham area who have produced Web-Sites about their local areas.
